We need a Cohler-type to wrangle some S-D editing shortcuts and 'custom actions' out of Wavelab, in a similar fashion to how he co-opted Reaper's functionality for same.

It's been a feature request of Wavelab for around 10 years...I don't think we'll ever see it...just not a priority for developer PG (Philippe Gautier)

Oh Wow! I’ve never heard of this, & it runs on Reaper.

Very interesting!

I’ve done tons of Classical music with this style of S>D editing from various takes. It’s detail work for sure, demanding a deep focus, but well worth it. As we know classical peeps are verrry picky about everything, especially that the sound be as true to the original as possible, & that any splices & edits be undetectable by their peers!

One of the strong features of Sonic Solutions that made it sooo popular back when.

Cheers, JT

Yes indeed! might a major rewrite of the Montage section.

maybe Justin or another WL Jedi can enlighten us on how to do “replacement editing” in WL Pro?

Best, Jt

I had to google to see what s-d editing even IS, and someone made custom actions to do it in Reaper:

And as far as vintage digital, Spitfish is still going strong here, 18 years later.

Superfast, efficient way of Replacement Master Editing.

Like laying two segments of tape side by side, and transplanting one song to the Master Reel, but without a razor blade or splicing tape!

I gave up S/D editing when I jumped from Sonic to WL ca. 2005. Honestly I've only missed it for classical editing. Otherwise the WL system is pretty great.

I sort of did four point editing in Wavelab for years by continuously alternating crossfades across/between two montage lanes. Worked very well for stereo. But then I needed multi-track SD editing and went to Pyramix. Never looked back.

BTW if you need SD editing, Pyramix Native Essentials is a real bargain.
