Foote Mastering Tool Box

Started work in earnest on our latest product the MTB-1.
It is a stereo processor that will have multiple ways of modifying audio, like choices of amplifiers, choices of transformers for coloration and a lot more.

I will update this as I go, since part of it is still being designed.

Best regards,
Roger Foote

Shelves or filters??? Kind of sounding like the Silver Bullet. Definitely interested in hearing more!

Not sure if a mix/parallel wet/dry knob would be feasible, but might be nice.

It is in the early design stages.
I will be working on a clipper board layout as soon as I finish the tray of 25 FCS DOAs I have in front of me right now...

It will have filters before and after the clip circuit. Filter type?
Whatever sounds best!

It will use several methods for color enhancement:
> Cascaded Amplifiers of several different varieties
> Active Clipper
> Transformer manipulation

All the best,
Roger

Hi all,
Finishing up the clip/sat circuit.
Have the core layout done and dusted, need to do the hardwire bypass for it this morning.

The way I am doing this, each stage/module is complete with it's own hard wire bypass.

This allows any one module to function separately.

Next module up is the transformer color section. Initial plans are to have several of these available...

One module will use the Triad-Utrad A67J which is VERY good at relieving stubborn cases of digititus. Once we get that nailed, I will decide on which other transformers we will include, the module can accept almost any transformer.
In this case, our client wants some vintage transformer magic in several flavors.

Then on to the EQ module. More news on that soon!

Hey Boris how's stuff?
My customer is in fact a very bright individual. He has very concise ideas, therefore I don't have to work as hard on the design. This project is a real pleasure for me!

Pretty good, thanks Roger. Things are progressing here too. Seems at your speed we might both have products out at a similar release time that from this here thread sound like they would love each other as a set.

Nothing better than a tool designed to a critical user's every personal wish. And from the sound of how you tickled the transformers in that P3EX I already know this here box of yours is going to be a total amazefest of tone. I better start saving.

Ok,
The vintage transformer section is now:
2- Triad A67J
2- UTC A-20
2- Triad HS66 (same as old HS56, different can and mounting)

Thinking about adding 2 discrete Baxandall stereo EQs to this beast, one before the clip/sat circuit, and one after the clip/sat circuit.

this looks fantastic
i think it would be very helpful to have filters (esp. hpf) in one or both of the bax sections.

Hi Dave,
Hmm, I will take that into consideration. Any particular frequency?
Btw, I did find that E64 (finally)
I need to fire it up for a test before I send it over.

oh yay, 90's samplers ftw
below 30 hz is mostly what's useful in mastering. 20 hz, something below 20, something above 20. i don't wanna say exact values cus i find every HPF sounds different even given the same frequency selection. but it's really nice to have options in the chain, and a lot of times harmonic enhancers like transformers and saturators respond a bit better with filtering beforehand.
