I'm puzzled. My Warbler Mk1 looks very different... In fact, it looks like this:

Has there been some change?

I, too, am puzzled... my Warbler looks like Gavin's. If there's been a drastic cosmetic change, it seems like quite an odd choice. The mic in the video looks more like the CM1 Black, I suppose.

The Warbler I,IV(cardiod only) and others have that type of head basket and grill.Except for the IIID and IID(U-47 ish) The D designated models(multi-pattern) have Neumann U-87 type head basket.

When the Mk1 first came out, it had the round grill that the others still have. Then, at some point, they switched it to the current angled grill. As for the color, I just painted the bodies as I didn't love the silver. I kinda forgot I had done that until you guys pointed it out 😆

I read the first 30 pages or so of this thread the other morning.

Any happy Warbler MKV owners in 2022? From what I read and heard early in the thread, that one sounded really promising.

Cool to learn a bit about my CM1 Teal, too, and how the capsule is more compressed and smeary than the capsules in the Warbler and GZ mic of similar style.

Kidvybes alluded to these two having their own mojo / flavor.

I'd like to know this too, but because I want to put one in a CAD M179.

Warbler MkIV for stereo ensemble/choir recording

Has anyone had experience of using a pair of Warbler cardioid-only MkIVs as a stereo pair to record a group of singers or a small ensemble please? I know people use some c414s this way, so I wonder how the MkIV and maybe the Teal are thought to compare to other lower cost mics in this kind of application?

Thanks, Gavin

I am looking for a second CM1 Teal (original / non-SE) so I can try this (and other stereo applications).

Hopefully one pops up on the marketplace sites in 2023.

I'm sure these would work just fine! They're very good mics, so in a good room with a good group (and proper positioning etc) I'm sure they'd make for lovely recordings.

Something to keep in mind is that the 414 probably didn't become popular for remote sessions as much for their "sound" as for their wide array of polar patterns. When you don't know what kind of room you're in, it's undoubtedly very helpful to have lots of variations of wide/cardioid/hyper, plus omni and figure-8, depending on the situation. The cardioid-only 3U mics obviously won't have this advantage! But a pair of good cardioid mics will be useable in many different kinds of environments, of course. If you're stuck with one pattern, might as well be that one. But flexibility is prized among remote recordists for very good reason, which is why the Austrian OC818 is becoming popular in those circles... theoretically infinite patterns!

I should add that I've come to like the MkIV particularly on voice 2. Ditto the MkI. The MkII I like best on setting 1.

I don't think I've noticed a /lot/ of talk about the voice options with the Warblers, but I think they're worth exploring perhaps particularly when you're working with different sources.

Random question about 3U Audio : did they start shipping to Europe again?
I'm still interested in a warbler mk1, or a pair.
