Mobile Recording, Tascam DR-05 vs Netbook/Focusrite/XLR Mic?

I'm looking to record percussive sounds and other random sampling material on the go.

I'm interested in either getting a Tascam DR-05, or using my relatively light netbook as a poor man's Sound Devices unit with a USB powered Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and a Sennheiser e835 or some other cheap mic.

Do you think the netbook/soundcard route would be significantly higher quality than the Tascam? Let's say I wasn't willing to live with the inconvenience, how much CLANK THUMP CRRRAAACK would I be missing out on?

I'm probably going to end up just getting one and seeing for myself, but I'd love to get some opinions if you got any.
