GAP Pre 73 MK2 Problem

I recently ordered a Gap Pre 73 Mk2 from Guitar Center and absolutely love it.

A few weeks ago I was recording vocals and heard a loud 'pop' from the unit followed by a low hum which did not go away. Checked the fuse and it looked fine. I'm not a pro tech but did not see any issues on the board.

Returned it to Guitar Center and ordered another.

Tonight I was recording acoustic guitar with the new unit and started smelling smoke which was coming from the Gap Pre. Soon after heard that hum again in the signal. Took the top off, fuse looks good, could not see what was burning.

Anyone else had issues? Should I return one more time or look elsewhere? I really dig this pre.

Thanks for the help!

Either you have a bad unit or grounding issues. I love this pre too. Never had any problems with mine.

Components fault (caps). Try to refund. probably issues with a batch.

Smoke ? see broken cap.

For a recently unit, don't open, use warranty.
