AT4040 and MXL69M question

I'm trying to decide between the two mics and want to know what would work best for male vocals, acoustic and some guitar cab?

I would upgrade the tube in the MXL69M to a Mullard 12AT7.

I've read a lot of posts on both mics and know they're totally different beasts, just looking for pros and cons in this thread. Would like to keep it under $300.

In my opinion a simple tube swap in a V69 will have minimal results, there is a lot of stuff in the signal chain following the tube that gets in the way ( see mark-o-matic.com or search here for mxl v69 mod - clips avail ) I have some new recommendations for that article need to finish up for that this week.

I do really like the v69 on cabs but would not choose it for acoustic I think.

Unfortunately I dont have a 4040 to compare to but have heard its a good all around mic.
