Smile Recording gear...big help

OK, lately ive been looking at some recording products and all of them are soo expensive. is there anything you would recommend along the lines of this:

but its close to 2000. and i need 6000 to go to berkelee. haha im so screwed.
anything along the lines of a great mulitrack for cheap?

If you have a computer you could just get an interface for it and some software for much cheaper than that. The computer route is more easily upgradable (and more cheaply upgradable) than the standalone recorder too. There are tons of options for interfaces in your price range, and most include some software (usually a limited version, but enough to get you started.)

How many tracks do you need to record at once? Do you own any gear already?

If you own a PC you can have an interface, couple of mics and pair of entry level monitors for under $1k.
