I bought Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band because it said the Beatles on it and I heard they were pretty good. The album turned out to be okay but to me it sounded like they were copying Pretty Odd by Panic at the Disco. Well not exactly copying, Sgt Pepper sounded more indie and lo fi I guess, that one Indian song was pretty chillwave. But cool cover too.

Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup.

I bought the CD around 1997 having never heard of them before and not even knowing what type of music it was. But the cover art was interesting and it came in a cardboard package while everything else was in the traditional all plastic case.

I fell in love with it and now I own most of their albums.

Obvious troll is obvious.

I picked up the Nomadic War Machine album "I Have a Gun Give Me All the Money in the Register" largely on the strength of the name. The fact it has a track called 'Some People are Only Alive Because it is Illegal to Kill Them' helped too. Turned out to be a wicked album!

Ummmm...they were definitely having a little fun with sarcasm and/or irony. Beatles fans need to lighten up!

Ok, gonna get slagged for this one...

Asia's first album:

Roger Dean art... and I really do dig the album. Dated? Sure. Overproduced? Yup. But Howe's tone and melodicism on "Heat of the Moment" kills, as does the drum sound on that track.

Me too...but then I remembered all these kids in the 60's who bought Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass' Whipped Cream And Other Delights
...and it certainly wasn't for their stirring rendition of "Lemon Tree"

Actually, when I was ~15 years old I bought a copy of an Ohio Players album...can't remember if it was Honey or Fire...but, um, well, yeah. That.

This is totally my story too.

Was just a little kid, saw this record (new release at the time - '76?) and asked my folks to buy it for me. They thought I was crazy but indulged me and I had no clue who they were. All I knew was they sure weren't those happy damned Beatles

First KISS record of many that I bought after that. My great grandmother freaked out on the cover but she actually enjoyed "Beth"...go figure.
