Pre for VST'i-

Greetings,

I'm new to GS. I've noticed that there are a lot of discussions on signal chain options for extermal sources, i.e. vocals and guitars and such. But there are almost none for synth/VST based productions. I look to spend 700-1000 over the next 6 months

The goal is to make my midi productions not sound so digital.
Examples are on KR|Music Group - Home

Tell me your thought on this combo
BLA Auteur ("Heavy/Colored Sounding Pre")
Synth Drums, Bass, Guitar,

True Sytems P-Solo ("UnColored Solid State")
Strings, Brass, Perc

Or A UA Twin Finity.. (Both Tube and Solidstate

Am I going in the right direction? What other options could work well given my situation?

Thanks in advance
Marion

Hey you should check out this video from Ronan's Recording Show (great show!):

Mic preamp reviews. Black Lion Audio, FMR Audio and True Systems | Ronan's Recording Show

He does a comparison between those preamps plus the FMR Audio “RNP" which is in the same price range.

very expensive way to add colour to ITB mixes IMO.

I think Nebula is the best option for this

I don't think a preamp is the solution you are after.

You could try vaious plugins, like nebula

Or you could get hardware you could get the Rupert Neve True Tape line driver.

You could get an overdrive unit, like the Thermionic Phoenix

You could get analog mixer.

But these hardware solutions are expensive, and may not do what you want.

You could try other things like micing a speaker, or putting it through guitar pedals too

with Nebula you need to buy the 3rd party libraries to get the best results.

CDSoundmaster does a 'Tape' bundle as well as a Tape booster which imparts real warmth - sampled from tape.

CDSoundMaster.com

Also - the Tube console libraries from analoginthebox.com or AlexB

Not to mention the conversions involved in the process...and proper ad/da gets things even more expensive.

I got great results using lounge lizard 3, sending it out to a peavey classic 30 and micing it, then mixing it back in with the original signal..very cool and, ummm real sounding!!
