Yamaha HS50M's and getting away with using my current sound card.

Hi all. This is my first post on this site and I'm excited to hear your suggestions. My problem is as follows:

I have my heart set on buying some Yamaha HS50M's for my burgeoning studio setup, however I'm wondering if I can get away with using them with my current sound card.

My sound card is good, except that it only has eighth-inch outputs. The HS50M's have both XLR and balanced quarter-inch inputs. My current plan is to buy a passive DI box, route the eighth inch into that out of my computer, and then run XLR out of each stereo channel on the DI box into the HS50M's.

So, does anyone see any problems with this? I've heard that passive DI boxes will slightly attenuate the high-end due to reasons I'm not fully versed on yet, so maybe if my wallet's doing alright I'll end up getting an active one.

Using a mini out of my computer into the DI box is what I'm mainly worried about. Will using a balanced mini cable pose any significant threat to the fidelity of the audio coming out of my computer, even after it's been through the DI box?

No need for a DI box, just make/buy the cables to fit.
