Best bang-for-the-buck front end?

Hi guys,

I am looking at improving my signal chain of 500 series Buzz Elixir (in Atlas Revolver rack) into 002 rack, to add better quality conversion and maybe range of sounds that can be produced.... I have a budget of around £1000.

I've heard on here that the Mytek 96 A/D is good but is it THAT MUCH better than the RME AD2? At the moment it's a third more in price in the UK!

Also, is the Purple Action as limited in its uses as everyone is saying? For the price it looks like it might add some compression/coloration options in the spare slot?

thanks for your help as always guys!
