Rode NT1 —> great budget mic for vocals. Can’t go wrong with it.
Rode NT2 (circa 1998) —> a step up from NT1. I like this one because it has an Omni pattern switch. Great for vocals but also acoustic instruments, even as a drum overhead.
AKG P170 (pair) —> great budget mics for acoustic instruments, drum over heads. Sound very clear, relatively quiet, and sturdy. I drop them more than I care to admit and they still work well.
Nady RSM 5 Ribbon Mic - I love this mic for guitar cabinets. It’s got a nice roll off on the highs, it sounds thick and almost “tapey”. From what I hear this is a good place to start if you’re interested in ribbon mics. Gotta be careful how you store it though (upright to avoid ribbon sag and always with the cover on)
MXL V67- large diaphragm condenser, a bit “tinny” but I record it along side my NT1 when doing vocals to have an extra signal to mix in for brightness. Cheap mic but not bad for what you pay for. I hear these can be modded for improvements by the pros.
SM57 (pair) - needs no intro I hope
SM58 (pair)- needs no intro I hope
Sure PE85L (an older Sure SM58 type from the 80s. Nice round dynamic).
GLS-EL57 (an SM57 knock off that has great bite and works well for guitars)
CAD Drum Mic Kit (Pair TM-211, Pair TM-212, + Kick Drum Mic). These aren’t stellar mics but they get the job done. If you have a decent preamp, throw these on a kit, or on bongos/congas etc…it will sound good, trust me. I think you can get the CAD drum mic kit for like $200 bucks online.

Yes. Barely. Went through the entire ribbon sheet before finally getting it right. Def sounds better. It was a rough job!

I wish y'all would say more about how much you do (or don't?) care for these mics! Us lesser beings are interested in your experiences.
