Bouncing to disc, big sound difference, why?

OK, so I've got my drums sounding pretty good in PT. But when I bounce a WAV or an MP3 of the final mix and listen back it sounds way different, more compressed it seems and a little muddy.

I'm sure this is routine stuff but can someone tell me what's happening and how to fix?

Thanks

Make sure that it has the same average level as in PT.
An MP3 slips also out at 10 KHZ and has depending on the bit rate different sound.

did you bounced 24 bits 44.1 khz WAV?
if you bounced 16 BIT 44.1 khz WAV you truncated the file and you have 8 zero bits with no information in it this may seems to you like mud.

If going down to 16 BIT always dither it.

Check these if you did a 24 BIT bounce???

MHHHHHH

Maybe this is an PT Special I am Logic freak.
Are you sure that it is a fact?

Did you tried with dithering?

If bounce something to disk it nearly sounds the same the dithering is a part for the Mastering E. normally.

Tell us how have you done the bounce?

welcome to the "bounce to disk woes." PT isn't terribly good at summing.

Um, I feel a little stupid. Since I was plying back my MP3 bounce through iTunes the EQ setting in iTunes was to blame, I played it flat and it's pretty much what I put down.

let's make this clear: software summing is the same in every program on earth! 1+1=10!

Eh, not true. There are some programs that sum differently. We can say that nearly all floating point DAWs sum the same, but they're not all floating point, and some simply take a different approach.

and to further that statement: if a=b and b=c, then all software summing isn't terribly good.

Sorry, can't agree. I NEVER, after years of trying was happy with a single PTLE bounce. That is even with Waves L1 Maximizer and every dithering option available. It never bounced and sounded like what I was mixing.

With Reaper, that problem was gone on day one. They have different mix engines and I have to assume that they use different equations to get the math done.

There is more than one way to get to 10.
