The M-audio projectmix I/O a step up?

from my MOTU MK2 converters? I'm needing a control surface for just over a thousand and I'm considering the project mix I/O. I'm not buying it for the converters, but I'm wondering if they will be better than the MK2. I'll really only be using the pre's for drums.
Any links or reviews on the product would be helpful too! Thank you!

The Projectmix is absolutely useless for tracking rock drums unless you stock up on a bunch of in-line pads.

So If I get nice pre's to render the M-audio pre's moot, are the converters going to be equal to/better than that on my Motu mk2?

I have no idea, I've never used the MK2, but the pres on the projectmix are absolute garbage. Great control surface, though.

I kinda gathered that the pre's would be crap. Are the converters at least decent? or is it pretty much not worth messing with the audio side at all? And can you bypass the pre's if I wanted to run drums through, say a True Systems Precision 8 so they wouldn't screw with my mic signal? The MOTU converters definitely are not stunning, I would think the project mix would at least be close to the converters in the 828.

Anyone one know if the converters are better or worse (or decent in general) on the project mix?

Converters are M-Audio. So... not that great. Better get a decent converter through SPDIF. Im currently looking also for a new ADDA converter.

I wouldnt buy the PM. I would buy Mackie CU Pro with a good audio interface.

just my 0.02

Well I'm basically getting a kickin' deal on the project mix (like 500 bucks off), and was planning on mostly only using it for the control surface, but was curious about the converters and pre's. I think I still might get it for the controller, unless people object to the control surface too....

I had a ProjectMix and hated the converters.

The control surface is really reliable, it hasn't lost sync in PT Mpowered in the few years I've owned it. The only irritating bit is that the faders don't recall properly a lot of times and I'll need to bank forward and then backwards to get them to work.
