The Rode NT5 matched pair for acoustic recordings?

I think the NT5's are great mics, however I've found them to be very "hot". I'd get a pair of NT55's if I were you. That'll give you a nice PAD to keep you from clipping your recordings. The NT55's also have an HPF as well.

I believe the NT5 and NT55 use the same capsules, although I may be wrong.

Matched because of the frequency response I suppose...so you don't commit two glaringly different mics in terms of freq response to an instrument....you don't want weird **** happening...or maybe that's how you get your kicks. I dunno. I'm staying out of it.

NT5's...budget? Back in 2003 or so when they came out you could get them for 400 something AD...nothing's changed.

They're not really 'matched pairs' - just have consecutive serial numbers. To get a legitimate matched pair you get a whole bunch of mics and find the 2 with the closest matching frequency response plots. It's important to get a close match when recording stereo, especially when using the coincident XY technique.
