Extremely noisy Sans Amp Bass Driver

Am I the only one who finds the Sansamp BDDI incredibly noisy for studio use? If I use treble/presence and raise volume it hisses like an angry snake, but if I maintain mixer and bass settings and go straight into the Emu-Tracker it's noiseless. What am I doing wrong? Should I invest in an Ampeg SVX. I'm not a fussy bass player, I just don't want peripheral noise in my mix. Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I find that keeping all your knobs an hour or two only from 12 o'clock and using your desk preamp cures my Sansamp woes. Making sure you've got your line/instrument levels set right, if you have a newer model. And using the XLR out whenever possible.

The bass driver rocks...
I only get the hiss you described if I turn the presence knob past 12:00.
I use phantom power for it too. Dont know if that has anything to do with it...

Maybe you have some electrical interference or a defective unit?
