for half time sting and gwen didn't seem lip synced.....
uh shania, well, Mutt probably made her make up some ground from the AMAs with the cardiovascular trauma she experienced walking up the steps.

that those "performances" existed at all bothered me more than the fact that Shania was lip-synching. The BonJovi crap after the game was pretty repellent, too. Why? WHY? just give the players their frickin' trophy. It's a football game ferchrissakes! madd

In the pre-game, on the other hand, Beyonce dancing and singing with my pal Tony Lindsay and Santana was moderately cheesy... but rather drool-worthy. She's delicious. yuktyy

When whatshername, the little brunette, oh yeah Michelle Branch lip sycnh'd for her number with Carlos, it sure beat how she would have sounded without her canned auto-tuned studio takes. I saw her do that piece live on tv elsewhere and the cute little thing can't hit alot of notes on target, especially not the "whyyyyy-iiiieeeiiii...". Shania did the most convincing lip synching of them all. Can't trade a Nashville studio education for anything, I guess.

Beyonce and Gwen were as delectable as ever, and both live vocals. Sting easily outsang Gwen and but he shouldn't have touched his old Police tunes. The drummer for No Doubt ate **** on the fills, hi hat work, a ride cybmal syncopation (he only played quarters on the bell!) for the Police stuff.

Bon Jovi get the **** off the stage already. You suck.

Oh yeah, if I'm not mistaken. the drummer with Santana was none other than Dennis Chambers. He was playing live and tore it up. That guy kills.

Shania was synced. No Doubt's first song probably was.

Sting was not. Gotta love him for that.

Shania's steel mesh bra didnt bother me at all.....and anyway who really gives a crap about these little 'leaders' designed to bring in a larger viewing audience....??? despite all the HYPE and the obvious GARISH spectacle that was the half time, the Bucs defense gave what in the end amounted to a clinical ass-whoopin the likes we've not witnessed in many years of stooper bowels...

yeah, shania was about what i expected, i.e., crap in a can, but i was actually pretty impressed with no doubt and sting. they had some musical chemistry, i thought, and the vocals were pretty strong. not an all-around chart-topping performance, but i thought it was pretty exciting to have a legit performance of any kind at the superbowl halftime show.

What really disappointed me was the fact that STYX played Queen covers, and they did not televise it... That would've been funnier than all the commercials combined...

Whether or not Dennis Chambers played live or not for the superbowl isn't interesting. What's interesting is to see him play when he has some space (I saw him in Nocera Umbra with Mike Stern) WOW!!! (Dennis Chambers) I'm sure he's the most happenin cat that exists.
Playback here in Europe is accepted as a matter of fact, even in live events.
We've been doing live events without it and most are awestruck as to how we pull it off, we say "faith in experience, we've done ot before".
I'm going to read the results now, I still don't know who won.
It's really tough here for an Xpatriot that's still a fan "Lets Go Jets", a fan will always be a fan. Satellite shows the game the day after. in France I had to go to the Hard Rock Cafe to see it.
It still wasn't as exciting as seeing Dennis Chambers play in three different time signatures with four limbs!

A friend of mine sent this to me.

Check out these two pictures from the inside of the video truck at the Super Bowl....

Just a few patches.

Which one feeds the live performance music playback deck to the console?

grggt rollz Gotta love that Steve ...

Anyone know if Celine Dion was live ? I was still in the car going to a buddy's place. Man ... she sounded killer .. on AM no less. And Sting only get's one tune .. make that half a tune considering he had to share it .. What's up with that. Not to mention Gwen doesn't quite hald a candle to such royalty that can still sing his butt off And Shania gets two for what ... to show off that steel mesh bra grggt

Celine looked live to me. I don't care who does or doesn't like her records, the woman is an astounding singer.

Dixie Chicks looked and sounded very canned.

The least impressive half time show I've ever seen ... ok , I've only seen a couple but it was clear to me that the economical crisis touches even the super bowl.

It's true, she has a fantastic voice.

When I heard she was gonna do a car commercial, I was disappointed.

I just saw the TV ad. IMO, it was a totally cool commercial, really well done. She was singing while she drove her vehicle along some awesome scenery.

I know many folks think it's a sell out. Selling great tunes in TV ads is a sell out to me. I believe there was a quality to her sell out.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Are you saying she is not the voice on her own records?

Upon further review, Dennis Chambers was not playing live. Offensive to virtuosity. 15 yard penalty. The ball will be spotted somewhere near his paycheck. 4th down.

The hell with that. At the end of one Carlos tune, he did a mind numbing fill... if he was able to exactly reproduce that from a canned source, he's even more astounding than I thought.

I don't have time to write this right now, and I'll probably be late for a session, but..............

Why do people have to trash succesful people they've never met? Is it jealousy? I don't get it. It's like a national sport.

I wonder if Mr Invective in the article linked above has ever met Shania in person? Likely no, I would imagine.

I've read how Shania is a soulless witch, etc, ad infinitum. How she's a simultaneous sellout to crass commercialism and reclusive cold fish.

So how was Shania when I worked with her? Totally great. Down to earth, seemingly unaware of being a robo-babe, warm, appreciative. In a nutshell, a pleasure. Mutt rode a bicycle to the studio. Shania drove a white, plain jane Ford Crown Vic. They bum the media out exactly because they really don't give them any good dirt to work with. That makes them the enemy. So they just make it up.

Yeah, I was reading the tabloid headlines in the checkout line at the supermarket. Shania and Mutt were "over", she was frigid and he was a freak. In reality, they were quietly pregnant and excited about being parents.

I've worked with maybe 12-15 "big time" gold and platinum acts. About half of them were just a great hang and you never would have guessed they were "big time" by their vibe. Shania falls on the good side of the good ones.

It bums me out when somebody gets trashed just because they're famous, as far as I can tell. If lip-syncing bums you out (and it mostly bums me out), fine. Say so. But character assasination and ridiculous accusations of not singing on your own record suck, frankly.

I've seen some behind the scenes humanity from Shania that was remarkably kind and heartwarming. She's far from cold.

You can probably tell I'm a bit emotional here. All I can say is if I had ever worked with any of you GS forum members, and you were as cool as Mutt and Shania, I would be just as quick to come to your defense if you were getting trashed.

Great Comment Brian T.....I think that Shania and Mutt are very aware of the 'simplicity' of their mutual music...I think they actually PLAN it that way...I think it makes it very very accesible to millions of their listeners....now dont trash me for this, but sometimes the atmosphere on this and other forums towards extremely successful is one of snobbery.....yeah, simple songs....yeah not a lot of range as a singer...BUT(and this is for all you guys driving a protools setup) wasnt that latest album a tribute to ya'll in your quest to have your system of choice be THE REAL DEAL....it sounds very very good though there is a coolness to it on my monitors....really now....which one of you out there would say no if Shania wanted to do tracks in your facility??? and how bad would you think success is at that point? As for me...i'm personally DAMN glad that they retain their privacy to the point that the only kind of reactions left to media maniacs is derisive...it shows their stupidity and we've got enough stupidity running rampant out in the world to worry about litlle things like whether or not shesang canned or shes a cold fish etc etc.....
