Large OS drive...necessary?

This will seem like a really basic question but…..

Why would you need a large OS drive..(1tb -2tb)
I was always told that the most you really needed for an OS drive was 500g, and that even 250g would be sufficient. I currently use a Samsung Evo 860 250g.
I've seen a few people online who use a 1tb or 2tb
I don't use samples.

The large drives are useful for backups. Between pictures, videos, emails, text messages, etc it all adds up quick. If you look at your device storage you will be shocked to see how many GB's are being taken up just in text messages. All of those emoji icons add up. It's also cheaper to buy a portable backup drive instead of paying for cloud storage.
