but thats not fault of the designer. thats simply tolerance. just as a sculpture must adhere to the inconsistencies of the rock that they cut from.

Or the sculptor must see the potential contained within the rock.

High End is an old term.

1. Appealing to sophisticated and discerning customers: a high-end department store; high-end video equipment.

2. Sophisticated and discerning: books targeted to the high-end consumer.

3. of the greatest power or sophistication

4. of superior quality or sophistication and usually high in price

It means that a piece of equipment has the highest degree of technology available, the highest quality in parts and build, reliability, longevity, etc.

In the technology end, it is also about what it will do, how well it will do it, and as stated before, the greatest sonic qualities.

For example, a monophonic synthesizer. Low end would be SH101, high end would be Moog Voyager or Minimoog Model D.

Polyphonic synthesizer, low end would be Casio CTK series, high end would be Korg Kronos, Roland Jupiter 80, Yamaha Motif XF8, etc.

High end is not about what it is worth to you. It is also about how much it costs and what is involved to produce it.
