Two massive passive and a SLAM.

EveAnna (jeez - spelling the fekking name right Rich, you jerk!!) doesn't like me but I like what she does!!!! After all this time Manley still sits top of the pile for me.

While I haven't had very good experiences with their customer service and the company in general, which actually made me put my money elsewhere for few major purchases, I still use the massive passive every day. Their gear is well made and sounds great. If it fits your needs then go for it.

Pultec, Mid Pultec and Mic/Eq500 combo. Not a day tracking without the Pultecs.

Vari Mu here. It's used more for coloration and vibe than actual "compression."

Varimu. Mostly for mastering, very little gain reduction most of the time.

Dual mono mic pre. It was my first real preamp, it's smooth and neutral. Nice on overheads.

.

Various experiences with Ref Cs.

The first one I used with a Mullard on my last record was FABULOUS.

So I bought one, but wasn't crazy about it, so I sold it to a guy who LOVES it.

People seem to generally go nuts over their Ref Cs.

I like brighter mics - yes, folks, even brighter than the Ref C!

I use my Massive Passive and ELOP every single day. I love 'em. MP on Overheads, guitars, mix bus and ELOP on Bass and vocals.

And I'll chalk up one positive experience for their customer service. The power transformer on my ELOP died, and they repaired it while I got lunch in Chino. Super helpful.

I've had a Vari-Mu for many years. Wouldn't want to be without it. I've also had superb service from Manley.

I love my ELOP compressor and I use it on every session I do, mostly for tracking vocals, guitar, bass, piano. I will also often use it while mixing if I need more compression. It's pretty transparent, and I like transparent compression, but what subtle tone it adds to the signal is a very nice one. Never had to use their service dept because it has never broken down. Their stuff is expensive but it is well made. I have used the Variable MU before and I would like to have one. The Massive Passive is on my wish list as well. Their microphones are nice, but they are too bright for my taste and I prefer vintage Neumnanns.

Massive passive lives on the mixbus here. Vari-mu that doesn't get so much love but just occasionally, when it works, it REALLY works.

a friend of mine has a voxbox, but is not giving it much use these days. He says he greatly prefers his BAE 1073's on vocals, and hasn't used the Voxbox since he got them.

I used to use a vox box 5 or 6 years ago and really enjoyed it. It depends on the source but was always great for rap vocals. I

I had a Dual Mono Mic Amp for a little. Recorded some good vocals with it. That and bass were really the only 2 I cared for it on and when it came to bass, many rock mixes needed something more focused and directed.

With that said, a lot of people noticed it in the rack and wanted me to use it even if I had something else I wanted to use on the person after hearing them play. It was also great on overheads and room mics.

I got rid of it because I had a good deal on a Daking IV pre and that's the type of pre I'm finding myself reaching for more often these days. Also, idk, I guess since I paid for something with both transformers and tubes, that I'd get something with more tone. You would think at least. Just seemed a bit neutral and slightly underwhelming for the cost. I'd MUCH rather have for Warm Audio WA12's for the cost of one of these. Actually , for what they are going for now, I could get 5 WA12's.

LOVE my Massive Passive. I wish I had 3 more. Great service, too. I recently had a repair, and it was completed and back in my hands in a week.

8+8 mixer, elop, and mini massive. Love them. I mainly do americana/roots and jazz. The mixer has made getting the size and tone I want so much easier, kinda like it was built in I could use more manley gear but the funds aren't there yet. Someday a massive passive and varimu are in my future...
