Help with Sony PCM2700 DAT recorder!

Hi,

Hope I'm posting this at the right place....I am having some trouble with a Sony PCM2700 DAT recorder. I've got a tape I have to record into protools, but the "48k" on the machine keeps blinking and I don't hear any audio or have any timecode, as if the tape inserted is empty.

Now I am VERY sure the tape contains audio, to check I recorded audio to another tape (at 48k), but the same problem shows.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

I know what your problem is........ You are using DAT........... Ha......

OK, not helping...... I'm sure glad I tossed those machines some time ago. Best of luck getting it going.

Thanks a lot!! On that german forum certainly are some things I could try, I'll start with just demagnetizing the head block.

And yes, the problem is also that I am using a DAT recorder in the first place, you are right about that!! Unfortunately a DAT recorder seems to be the only way to transfer some old DAT tapes on my harddrive
