Flea M49

Tube Tests Show Ep.25 "Neumann M49 and FLEA 49 Tube Microphones" - YouTube

Loved the Flea 49 in this video...

I believe it had the AC701k mini tube, does anyone know if Flea still uses these like the original since they state "exact replica" or if they ran out and use another tube now?

Really keen to get one, but if they've changed tubes I might be best served looking for a second hand Flea 49 if that's the case that hast he AC701k

Just ordered anither FLEA 49 with ac701 tube. ac701 is an extra cost item but you can still get it from FLEA.

A great mic.

How much extra does the tube cost? I have a Flea 49 with the newer tube and have been wondering if there is a difference in sound?

apparently there is also 2 capsules to choose from to add confusement to the show.

you can get a thirsch verified or a thirsch built....

I wonder if the thirsch verified are built in China, or if they are built by Flea and verified by thirsch

IMO you can choose one with FLEA backplate skinned by Tiersch or one with Tiersch
backplate and skin

anyone ever try a regular 49 and Flea 49 in front of a drum kit and A/B?
just wondering how close the low end is on these babies.
I did that with the demo wunder m50 vs real m50.
5 feet in front of kit chest level.
the Wunder had a fairly steep low roll off under 60hz by comparison.

I often use my Flea 49 at chest level about 5 feet in front of the drum kit. One of my favorite applications of that mic. Really balanced with smooth extended low end. Sometimes that track through a ba6a is the whole drum sound. I don't have a Neumann m49 to compare it to, so I can't help you there.

I found a few flea49 compared to M49's and the bottoms on the flea was thunderous just like the M49

To add even more "confusement" - FleA can custom-build the capsule to your own requirements if you want. They can tailor the sound of the capsule to suit your voice.

Well an M49B is different than an M49C which is probably why Flea offers the two different capsules. M49B has an M7 capsule and the M49C has a KK47 (also know as aKK49 capsule).

When Oliver builds these he offer's either the Tiersch M7 capsule or a Neumann KK47... I went with the KK47 as I prefer the Neumann M49C slightly but if I was doing strictly orchestral recording, I would have went the M49B route.

btw, I've tested mine against several M49C's and no one can tell them apart.

I hear the Flea's are fantastic as well.
