I saw Pat Metheny's Unity Band in August. LOTS of Fatheads all over the stage, including a pair over Antonio Sanchez' drum kit. Sounded pretty damn good, to me.

I recently went through an very LONG trial period in finding the best overhead situation for me. I ended up with a AEA R88. (thanks joe baldridge)

i am in love with this mic. it sounds so good on drums i use all the time on other things.

i am running it through dakings and truthfully would not hesitate to cut a vocal on it with that pre. the r88 has qualities that make it hard to tell its a ribbon. ie..very well rounded frequency wise and not at all boxy, bassy or no top end.

btw, i have a rca 77dx and fatheads also.

anyway, you can go to itunes and listen to shannon bex's new ep (from the girl group dannity kane) for a listen on drums and perc. the ep is called 'i'm a woman'

hope that helps TS

In this ruff mix on the video, everything but the snare on the kit is a ribbon, and both top, (neck position) and bottom, (near the bridge) of the upright bass are also the Cloud ribbon mics.

They were wonderful in this situation!
very nice paul
