MD 421 - if going for attack and grit. Works best in crunchy rock and similar genres. Usually bass with distortion / overdrive...

PR-40 - if going for a more hi-fi and "polite" sound. Usually clean bass.

If neither catches what I'm shooting for, then it's a gamble between a AT4047, DIY U47, KSM32, 57, 201, or a MD441. I'm not into using kick drum mics (D112, B52 or similar) on bass cabs. Too much woof, and poor definition for my tastes...

An old Beyer M88 is great on a bass amp. I don't know about the new ones though.

Atm250de or re20...that's my first line anyway. After that, whatever works.
