help needed with Lynx Aurora

Hi,

I'm about to purchase the Lynx Aurora to replace or complement my Motu896hd.
If it replaces it , it will be with the AES16 card, if it complements it will send 8 channels of ADAT to the Motu.

I have no mixer, and so far I 've been using the Motu cuemix console to handle monitoring levels when tracking, and control room level.
I use 8 channels of outboard pres that I 'll send straight in the analog in of the Aurora.

My question is;
(in the case I ditch the Motu)

Does the Aurora have zero latency monitoring handled in the hardware like the Motu,
or will I have to monitor from inside the DAW (thus relying on low buffer settings).
As there is no specific monitor out on the Aurora, I wonder how this is gonna work and if I can have the same comfort as with the Motu?

Thanks

Jean

Hi.

There is a question along those same lines on the Lynx forum right now.

I only read it briefly but I don't think the Lynx is very strong in that department.

Maybe it's a software thing that can be improved down the track.

At least the converters are good.

Cheers,

You can monitor though the aurora/ aes 16 with no latency.

But if you are tracking a whole band, you will have to have an external mixer, as you can only monitor 4 sources via the aes sixteen card with zero latency at a time. When I track a full band with my aes/aurora sixteen, I have to pull my 1402 in to be able to monitor properly. The RME AES 32 allows you to monitor all sixteen inputs at a time for a little more money.

I hope this helps

I was going to replace my motu hd192 with a 16 channel aurora. I decided Motu's cue mix was more important to me so I just got black lion to modify my Hd192 and it's sound is night and day. Very comparable.

Good luck
