Apogee Special Edition

I am trying to decide between a used Apogee PSX 100 and a used Apogee PSX 100 SE.

Is it worth the extra $400 (used) for the SE edition?

Has anybody compared the two?

Any further opinions on these conversters?

Thanks,
Jon

Buy a Crane Song HEDD 192 A/D/A, IMNSHO it sounds better to my ears than both, and has 'tape' and 'tube' simulation that is the best I have ever heard (blows away any plug in attempt by kilometers).

The SE has an upgraded (lots of hand picked components) analog board with higher quality bi-FET opamps. It's also got a filter on the power supply to clear up the AC. The D/A section also has a new third-order Bessel filter which sounds a crapload better on D to A apps. There's a much better imaging & sharpness. Considering how important the A/D is if you print to dig, I'd recomend it. (or the upgrade if you have a regular unit)

"Putting Big Ben into the equation will make the sound of the PSX-100SE unreal. Without Big Ben, when you A/B the difference in sound quality you'll think the PSX-100SE sounds like a washing machine"

The above is a quote from apogee. Make sure you get the big ben if you go for the PSX-100SE.

Now print out this sage wisdom, put it in to the "Way Back Machine" and set the time to September 6th, 2002 at 4:14pm and help this guy out......
