I currently use a BSS 960 dual mode. It compares nicely to a KlarK Teknik dual mode.

If your budget does not permit the above you can find a KT 360 used on ebay for 600-800.

Have a good day.

Depends on what I'm going to use it for...

A couple API 550b's or Neve EQ's for some things... A couple Pultecs for some things... IBIS for stereo buss..

I feel so un-cool. I wa dying to hear the Great River stereo EQ and ordered one from Mercenary Audio. We plugged it in across the buss, and understand, I was wanting and expecting to love this thing. My engineer tried some stuff with it, wasn't impressed with it, then I was like "here, let me try it!" I..... didn't like it either. Sounded very plain and unmagical. What's wrong with me? Didn't sound like Neve EQ at all to me... it actually sounded (please, I don't want to incur the wrath of gearslutz) kind of cheap. AAGH. Can't believe I just wrote that. But it did. Maybe I had a weird unit. We promptly sent it back.

I've had that exact experience with gear too. Sent back a FATSO and a Manley Vari-Mu among other things. One person's magic is another person's return shipping.

I love Dave Derr's gear and have several Distressor's and Lil Freq's... but couldn't get my head/ears around the Fatso.

Its a little too sharp and focused on the top end for the mixbuss.

Similar "vibe" to the GML 8200 but in broad strokes.

I love it on acoustic guitars though.

Seriously recommend listening to the Speck ASC-T. You might find it unnecessary to spend $2500+ for an EQ.

I love my API 550M's. I looked long and hard for a stereo eq. All the 550 eq's are stepped, if that matters to you.

But if you also looking for a preamp, then I personally would get a couple of nice channel strips. API has one with a compressor and eq, Chandler's Neve and EMI strips, Phoenix Audio... the price might work out close to what you pay if you bought the eq separately.

Good luck!

I love all good eqs

The Fairman is a fave, API, Inductor EQs, Altec Hi/Lo filters ... the list is endless.
