Help finding new caps...

Guys, I have to urgently replace the caps on my U47 power supply (one went bad, they're all ten years old, so it's time to change 'em all).

I'm having trouble finding the right ones locally, i.e. the screw-in type, >= 47uF and >=350V, preferably Siemens.

Any suggestions where to find good caps by internet or mail?

Thanks.

I'll email you the number of a guy in Belgium who might be able to help you .... while at it .... I'm looking for a powersupply ... an original one preferably ....

I just found a U47 longbody with VF14 in excellent shape a couple of weeks ago but it doesn't have a power supply. I allready called this guy and he's looking for one for me too .... thought while you brought this up that maybe somebody out here might know some ???

Chris,

I don't know of any private sellers...I suppose I'd probably start by contacting Funky Junk in London or Paris, Leo Leonard in Paris, Bill Bradley at the Mic Shop in Nashville (www.micshop.com), Tracy Korby, Stephen Paul Audio in California, and Klaus of German Masterworks in Oregon.

Bill Bradley, who sold me the mic, offered to re-cap it for me, but I don't really have the time to mail it overseas...I need the mic right away and am hoping to re-cap here myself.

You could try calling Michael Percy Audio,
http://www.percyaudio.com
He stocks Rubycon Black Gate electrolytics. Here's a pasted description from his catalog;

"WKZ High Voltage Polarized

*WKZ is a premium polarized capacitor for the B+ supply in vacuum tube audio equipment up to 500VDC.

47Β΅F/47Β΅F . . . .500V . . . .115.00 ..........35mm x 65mm"

Not sure about the form factor of this one, but it's supposedly the best electrolytic on the planet, as well as the most expensive. HTH

I'd just like to say a big thank you to Bill Bradley at the Mic Shop near Nashville, who re-capped and fixed up my U47 power supply in ONE DAY and sent it right back by FedEx. The mic arrived this morning and it sounds better than ever.

Thanks, Bill!

I've had good luck with Bill as well, and his house/shop is well worth the drive over, for the folks near Nashville - a great view!
