There's been some discussion of ADM here before, the general consensus seems to be that their stuff is pretty good. The one ADM console I had some experience with was based around older Quad eight modules, or at least the eq's were, and it was great sounding.

Do a search.

doesn't look like a 780 to me, however it looks like a nice ADM preamp in very good condition (almost new). The desk looks to me like a nice piece of gear. Are you selling?
Sent you a PM.

phoe good question

does it work?
are the parts missing in the picture available?
(It would be nice to buy a console WITH routing.)

really really rough guess (take this as a personal opinion)
working + parts maximum. 3200 euros (EDIT sorry: raised my estimate)
(bit low but no EQ, and I love the EQs)
not working no parts maximum. 1400 euros
(where how what to make it working= grey hairs)

You let us know what happens? And how it sounds?

maybe this is a stupid question but: How can you know it is working fine, if you didn't hear it? Without a PSU that would be difficult.

ADM 780

The last picture in this thread is a 780 mic pre,I know because I have a bunch of them that I'm selling. That console looks like it's from the 80's because the 70's models were black. Some people sell these consoles pretty cheap,in fact I have heard of people getting them for free.

I've heard that the black potted output transformers sound really nice on these pre's and I see one here on your picture towards the top of this thread.

The utc 0-8 input transformers on the 780 sound nice and open in the high end that are on these.

The power supplys on these consoles are big at least on the console that I bought.I might be able to help you find a power supply for this console if you need help.

I have a bunch of early blackface 780 pres and 1540 eq's that I'm selling off with output transformers. They are all stock and I'm thinking of getting Pat in Canada to mod some as well.Pat says they sound much better with the mod, like night and day difference.

email me if I can help or if anyone wants to buy some of my ADM modules.

Mine are the modded ones by Pat, never heard the original version, because these are really not that common here in europe.
Question for Denny: What is the history of the console?

Q:
<quote=Denny>No I don't, I want buy it.
What's the real price?</quote>

A:
The price varies. I paid less than $2000 USD for a 16 channel ADM S/TV console that looks similar and was built in 1989, but much more for a tech to build patchbays and bring the console up to spec.

Be aware that if the console has not been tested by a tech that you could be in for some nasty surprises. Mine looked good upon receipt, but had channel crosstalk as well as switches that needed to be replaced and I had some mods done as well as a re-cap of the master section.

Unfortunately, the fact that very few schematics accompanied my console compounded the problem. When I was told schematics were included, I didn't realize that the seller wasn't talking about the important ones. Get familiar with the module numbers and make sure those schematics are included. It is not easy to locate schematics for these boards.

I'm not the first to learn things the hard way. I trust the work my tech has done and I'm sure I will be very happy with the console. I should be recieving it next week.

Good Luck!

Ok, so they'll probably have schematics, and more information for you.
It looks like it has been well taken care of, but you never know.
I have a Sony mixer, got it from ebay, it was packed wrong, and someone has been playing football with it, that has a nasty buzz in one of the auxes
I have searched and searched but nowhere can I find schematics.

So don't let that happen to you!

On second notice, the empty space on the right was probably for a telephone connection and telephone switcher. That is what is in most of these.

I'd say, pay no more than 1500 euro for the ADM. There is a LAWO on ebay right now that costs the same. That LAWO is a huge chunck of metal though, and a lot of work, so I'm not going for it. I'm building a BFE-Neumann mixer right now, so the next half year no more consoles for me.............

good luck thumbsup

ADM

My buddy at Vintage King swears by ADM... I've heard some CDs recorded on them.. 1 sounded dull and the other was tracked REALLY well.. He describes his ADM console like "well, it sounds like a nice old console, what else can I say?" ...

I wouldn't say it's neveish.. but it's colorful.

Can anyone detail what CDs and or movies were done with ADM equipment?
Thanks,

The majority of ADM desks ended up at large TV stations vs. recording studios.

That era of ADM stuff isnt what Id call 'colorful'. Its clean and clear but with a bit of transformer niceness to it. I have a 780 and a 2780 and I use them for vocals often as they help them sit out on top of a mix, even on a crap car stereo.

The mic pre is similar to API, basically a transformer+discrete opamp+transformer design, but with some extra crap in line. Pats mod (AFAIK) bypasses these extra opamps. You loose some gain but he says it sounds better. Mine are unmodded and I think they sound good to great, but theyre not an all round tracking pre.

For mixing, Its the kind of topology I like - not too soundy but just enough to be nice.

However the desk that youve showed doesnt have the discrete opamp in its mic pre modules, instead it uses only ICs. It should still be good sounding if they havnt messed up the design, and the transformers will definitely help. But I wouldnt pay much for it, as theres no EQ and you havnt tested it. Be assured there WILL be faults. Also unless you can find a PSU youre looking at a big chunk of cash for a tech to make one.

Does it have any limiter modules? I cant see in the photo...
Also Im not sure if I can see a gain switch...it looks like one but the photo is too small. If the modules arent mic pres, then its not worth much at all. Check on this...
