question for Sanken CU-41 owners about output level...

I have a CU-41 and the level the mic outputs is really low (about 10db less than a modern U87 AI )
is your CU-41 quite compared other LDC you own?
this one needs a service (it's gotten damp at some point and crackles)
but i spoke with someone there and they want £500+ shipping for a new capsules so hoped it wasn't that

Although I haven't tried to measure them in any formal way, my CU-41s seem to put out a level very close to what my non-A U-87s put out. The non-A U-87 supposedly has a 6 dB lower output level than the newer Ai version, so it sounds like your CU-41 is likely putting out its normal level.

Especially if it sounds good, it's probably fine.

I know this is 11 years old...

... but who quoted the repair cost?

I bought a CU-41 in need of repair due to being dropped, but I was told the UK distributer sent it to Sanken who said they wouldn't replace the capsules because it doesn't comply with EU standards (they sadly removed the top capsule and sent it back to the previous owner - wish they'd left it in place so I could get it repaired by a third party).

Anyway, I was just wondering if things had changed since you looked for a repair or if you went to someone who may still replace capsules on mine....

(I bought it very cheap, £250 because of that.. so another £500 would still be a good deal)
