i need a de-escher

thats right. not a de-esser, but de-escher. i hardly have problems with "ss". but the "sch" is killing me. same on classic recordings. whenver anyone sings "show" "chance" "she" my ears are hurt. can anyone recommend a hardware unit that helps me with this?

no such thing

as i feel that they are the same and a desser will accomplish deeshing.

for more fine tuning, get the lil freq which offers fine tuning.

however, the waves ren de-esser offers de eshing/essing or split.

Grab a compressor with a sidechain insert and use an EQ to find what bugs you, and smack it down...?

Been to an ENT lately? Sounds like you may have fluid built up in your canals.

If so your best bet is 2 mucinex and a gallon of water a day.

I need a de-"ttt"-sser. Past few days have been playing around with deessers but can't seem to nail the TTTs without taking out too much of the other frequencies that give the vocals "air". ANy ideas?

Don't mean to hijack the thread

You will never find a de-esser that's as effective as this little move right here:

Just pull down that center point until you have the amount of reduction desired. Done right, it's *completely* transparent and by its very nature doesn't affect anything else in the track.

seems to me the CHHHH sound he is talking about is more proximity effect on the H

higher than P or B pops but overload from the air pressure

Lol! Nah, I just removed it from my studio. But it's still on my laptop, at some point I gotta take that analog 2-mix and convert to an mp3.

Plus, I can't lug the Studer to trade shows... much as I would love to!

Cool. Ill have to try that. I use the same/similar method for taming over powering cymbal hits.

I can also second the recommendation of the DSM, very powerful, but sometimes I can't get it right still.

I've been trying the Eiosis Deesser, and it has a feature no other plug-in has, that might do exactly what you're after: it lets you EQ "s" and "schhh" independently from the rest of the signal. Try it!

thanks for the replies.

first, no i dont need ear cleaning. my doctor does this regularly :-)

second, i know how to use automation but was asking for a hardware unit - thanks for your advice anyways.

so i guess i'm asking for a hardware de-esser with transparent split-mode.

I was just wondering what mic/pre combo you're using?

The problem you had rings a bell with me. I went to a Fearn/Lawson combo and it went away. Tubes.

Just an idea...
