I love the way those mics look...and separating the tube power from the audio cabling is always a good idea, I'm surprised we don't see it more often. I'll have to see if Steve would be willing to ship those down to LA sometime...

Some useless info on those mics,

Benny Andersson from ABBA also has one in his studio in Stockholm, and yes , it's very nice indeed.

Magnus

Hmm....now I'm interested....

They weren't that close together, were they?

How did it sound, and did you use any mics for the soloists?

Thats why i thought it was Swedish jazz engineer Gert Palmqrantz, he has a philosophy that this is how close you ears are so therefore this is how to get an accurat stereopicture.
And he has actually won classical music prizes for best sound.

Sounds like the idea behind ORTF micing.

The mics were that close and it was Gert Palmcrantz who did the recording.

No extra mics for soloists. They just tiptoed closer to the mics and then tiptoed back to their place in the section. Only recording I've been on when the engineer tiptoes in and lowers mic stand during take to get more piano. =)

He used an extra drum overhead mic for songs with brushes.

It actually sounded too middy-muddy in my opinion but I think that was because we were in a too dry studio.
