Yes. Extensively.

Kinda like a very flexible wire that equalizes

Shaping your audio.

Nothing. They are an entity unto themselves

$5k USD... those who know what they are, and have the float to procur one, will...

Looks like an interesting piece. How does it differ from the 9098 eq that Amek puts out now?

It was one of the early pieces Rupert Neve designed when he first got to Amek.

It was originally designed as a mastering EQ.

The build quality is actually not as good as the stuff built now.

It has its fans and its detracters.

Which camp do you fall into, if you don't mind me asking? Not to start a disagreement between you and Fletcher or anything...

Do I think its worth $5K...nope(by the way I've seen it for way less on Ebay).

Is it useful...sure.

I think basically all EQ's can be useful, depending on the use.

Does it sound like the old stuff...nope.

Pretty clean actually.

They're very clean units... it was the first occurance of the "sheen" thing... which I found to be a very interesting sound [has less than nothing to do with the old stuff, but is a very interesting sound none the less].

The other thing I thought that was very cool about it was that you could use the 'bottom channel' as either it's own 4 band channel, can be linked to the top channel making it a 5, 6, 7, or 8 band EQ... or any of the 4 bands can be split off to a '3rd channel' of EQ.

Damn flexible... and if you're really into it, MIDI controllable!!

FWIW, Greg Calbi @ Sterling Sound had one in his rack (last time I was there). He loved it!

Cheers,

Tony Mantz.

I have never used the MIDI option... nor do I know anyone that has ever used the MIDI option... I just know that it has one.
