Well, I emerge from a month of serious lock-out, insane hours to hit deadlines and.........time to start mix.
I have been on a mamoth quest to purchase an API 2500 (2-buss) but after three weeks of begging, pleading, wanting to throw money
at the company, API could not get their act together to get a unit to me in time for this project. I was let down in so many ways that it does not bare listing.
I LOVE the sound of API stuff but have had real bad luck with the relliabilty of the equipment. I will soon be on my third 4 channel mic pre! The first arrived not working at all. The second had two channels fail after 6 months. What can I say other than the guys over there do not really give a stuff since the place is run by acountants. The designers etc are passionate but have no teeth to make decisions. Pitty.
That is me off my frustrated soap box.
So, Smart compressor C2 was the other option. Any valued insight
you could help me with. I have to buy blind as there are no dealers in South Africa.
Always appreciate the insight offered here. Thanks so much
I'm not sure from your post what you'd like to know. The C2 is a great box with a particular sound to it that many engineers use. I also like and use the Tubetech SMC2B (stereo 3-band valve comp) and the GML 8900. Other stereo comps I would definitely look into at the moment would be the Crane Song STC8 and the Chandler EMI limiter. You could try linking together two LA2s as well...Also, we had a 33609 for 3 months that I just sold. I found it disappointing on the stereo bus and reckon something may have been not quite well with that particular machine. YMM very definitely V.
The C2 arrives today. Was looking at the Crane Song but thought the $4500 was a little more than I wanted to spend right now. Will check it out at a later date though.
Interesting about the33609.........indeed sounds like something was wrong. Great piece. Maybe it had been "worked" on or some components were due for replacement?
