2 channel Tube Mic Pres

I'm looking to spend around $1500 on a stereo/2 channel TUBE mic pre. VU meter is a must!

I've come up with these 3:

(2) UA 710 Twin-Finity's

Sebatron vmp-2000eVU

SPL GoldMike MKII

I would love your honest opinions if you have any.

Thanks!
Rob

Build a G9 and tube it with NOS GE 5star 5814a tubes.
Take the other 700 bucks and buy yourself a drink or three

I have no idea what that is. But saving 700 sounds good

It's a DIY tube pre that sounds incredible. I have 17 channels of outboard pres in addition to the 28-channels in my Series II Neotek and I still use my G9 all the time.

I have the Sebatron sitting beside me now. I love it love it love it!

Its very versatile, and you can easily vary the amount of colour you can get from it.

Sebatron

I have the vmp2000e as I don't really need the VU's.

I also recently got a Sebatron vmp2000e and I like it very much.
I got it because of great reviews and because of its price, I paid $800 dollars for a used 2 channels...best deal I found on 2 tube channels pre yet.

It crossed my mind also on getting an Altec 1567 or Ampex 351 for the same price.
Any takes on these comparing to the Sebatron? I guess I picked the Sebatron since it's a more recent unit and I didn't feel like sending the vintage old units to a tech for cleaning or mods. I hear people complaining about noises and hums on those..

That being said I won't say the Sebatron sounds better than other tube pres because I honestly do not have any experience with any of them...

I almost got a pair of Telefunken V72s once but the original owner changed his mind.
Still wanna get a pair though in the future.

Any opinions from the Sebatron users when comparing to other tube mic pres like V72s, DW Fearn, UA 610, Summit, Pendulum, Tube Tech, La Chapell.

I have a G9 with JAN5814A tubes (Jakob says, haven't checked for myself....). I think it is a very nice sounding pre - that's why I got it in the first place. The instrument input is stellar...

However, I feel the sould could be more "happening" more "larger then life"... Has anybody tried Telefunken tubes in it? Mullards?

Cheers,

Cheers,
I've used mine with Mullard/Hammond, RCA, and the GE 5 star (the triple mica version).
But, the sonics are also in the build quality, trunny choice (IMO the OEP are outstanding and the Llundahls are good but not as good), grounding scheme, minor mods (that HF oscillation thingy sucked until I sussed it out).
But I will say once I overhauled mine and put the 5stars in there, we got some luscious bass. Not entirely 'in-your-face' but smooth as silk and highly defined imaging. I am looking forward to seeing how they sound for vocals.
For now, I'm sold on the 5stars but I am open for opinions and first hand experience on other tubes.

FWIW: The first session they were used in, Steve Holley was playing drums and commented on how nice the bass sounded...

Thought about that.... I currently have 2 Digimax's and a Central Station so I am a fan of Presonus, I just think I want to try something else. I'm sure it's great.

Seems to me I've read that the Sebatron is smooth and a bit less detailed in the highs with some inherent roll off. So those who own a Sebatron VMP2000e find it to be detailed and airy, or is it a bit less of an all arounder being more coloured and creamy? My focus would be acoustic guitar, bass DI (Which I expect would be great with the Sebatron) and male vocals.
