DPA 4011 single?

I want to get a small condensor mic to record acoustic instruments in my home studio.
I have some large condenser mics. Am I better off investing in I good good mic like a DPA 4011 and use it with a large condensor for stereo or alone or by a a stereo set of mics that are less expensive?

Two different mics will not make a stereo pair. To do stereo properly, you really do need to have 2 of the same kind of mic.

The 4011 is a great mic as are the other mics at that level of quality. Why don't you get a pair of Sennheiser 8040 mics which will cost only a couple hundred bucks more than a single 4011? Or... Look on the used market. I have seen pairs of Schoeps go in that general price range as well (certainly not new, though...) Takes a bit of patience to get exactly what you want, but it is out there- especially since the economy has tanked.

I would call DPA for the latest product info.

I think you are better off getting one 4011 to go with your large diafram mic.
They can sound great in stereo.
