K+H O 300, digital input ?

Hi all

Is it worth it to buy O 300 D with digital input ?

The difference is $800 if I want to buy a pair of the basic O 300. I read that the main difference is that we have a D/A.

Right now I have Motu 192 HD, which is not that good converter.

Another thing, there is a room-EQ in O 300 D.

So over all, is it worth it to spend an extra $800 ?

Regards.

Imho it is not worth the difference. For the added money you can buy a better standalone converter and BTW O300's also have an onboard room EQ.

Thanks a lot Jantex.

I know that at some point I have to upgrade my converter.

If the O300's have onboard room EQ, the comparison will be like this :
The built-in converter in the O300 D vs Motu 192HD.

So it's not worth it to buy the digital ones if you have , or planning to have, a good converter.

Thanks again Jantex

Life gets complicated when using the digital inputs on any speaker. Dynaudio was smart and included a volume control, but if you were to connect the 0300D's using the dig input, you would have to use software to control the volume. NIGHTMARE! One glitch of the mouse, and you've blasted your ears off.

audiomichael makes a very valid point!

I've got the 0300D and have used the digital in - it sounded fine, but not $800 'better' than analogue. As I understand it the 'D' version also has an input transformer (the normal 0300 doesn't) which isn't intended to colour the sound (God forbid) but counter distortion. But I'm just repeating what a dealer told me, so maybe double check that with the K+H website.

I tested both the 0300 and the 0300d - they both sounded great, they both sounded the same and I would have bought the 0300 but for the fact that the dealer offered me such a good price on a pair of 'D's that he wanted to shift, that it didn't make a whole lot of difference in price. And this is Gearslutz's, right? heh

Get the 0300 and spend the $800 on your kids / girl / dog / pension plan / drug fuelled lap dancing night out
