Replacement tubes for UA LA-2A

Hi,

I'm about to change tubes in my LA-2a, are there anyone who have tested different manufactors on the tubes and prefer a specific one?

Umm!

Well they used to say don't be a dullard fit a Mullard.
If you can find them tested NOS at reasonable cost, try em.
Trouble is you might have to fight some solid silver cable wielding
hi fi nut for them.heh

I've tried them all in there. The best tubes for an original LA-2A vibe would be the long-plate RCAs and Tung Sols (vintage, not re-issue) in the 12AX7 spot. Though, you can really open up the top-end and make it a little tighter by using Telefunken. However, it doesn't really sound like an LA-2A after that though (more like a CL-1B actually). Most Mullards are too dark for the LA-2A. Most modern production tubes (like the JJ 12AX7s they use in the LA-2A re-issues) sound pretty bad.
For the output tube, 12BH7, The old GE, Tung Sol, and RCAs are all very nice.
The 6Aq5 can be replaced with anything strong and reliable (GE, RCA, etc)

Hi, and thanks for all info!

I need to change these to tomorrow and can't get the recommended RCA, Telefunken etc in time, will have to take these the next time.

So my question is now, do you think these will work ok as replacement for the 12ax7 tube?

7025-High Grade TAD, Low Noise

Thanks!

They're around the same as any of the other modern-production tubes. TAD re-brands Russian and Chinese tubes, like many other companies do. If you're in a pinch and have to run to the local music store, they should do.

Thanks, for next time I will try the others. Do you ship to Sweden?

What prices do you have on those that you recommended?

I too need to replace the tubes on my teletronix LA2a. Anyone know where I can find NOS Mullards? Has anyone tried anything from tubedepot.com?
