Only ribbons I have access to are a pair of RCA 44s.. waaaay too quiet and dark for this.. And i'm scared of getting them anywhere near a vocalist incase they decide to say "People play pop at partys" into it.

I'm really impressed by the isolation with the tlm170. especially using it on percussion. been my standard for snare lately too. all my hi-hat and first tom issues have really reduced.

It seems to be very sensitive to proximity effect compared to other figure 8's i've used. so on an already boomy guitar on a live recording I just can't get it close enough to get the seperation without it getting boomy.

There's a nice shot of this dual figure 8 arrangement in this vid:

Jefferson Fox - Nobody's Fault (HD) - Vimeo Guitar Players on Vimeo

I was surprised at the miking distances on both the vocal and guitar.

I enjoy a 414B-XLS in figure 8 paired with a SM81. Depending on the room and proximity you can get very unique and flexible sounds from an acoustic guitar.

I love figure 8 setups especially on 2nd acoustic guitars that are mixed in the back a little more. Maybe its because you can exagerate the stereo field a little without ruining your mix.
