HEDD 192, API A2D feeding MOTU 828 Mk3

Hey everyone -

I was wondering if anyone had a good solution to interface both a HEDD 192 and an API A2D to a MOTU 828Mk3?

The MOTU only has one digital input which is S/PDIF (no AES). The HEDD has both S/PDIF in and out while the API only has the single S/PDIF output.

I really only need to be able to record 2 channels at a time sooo...

What happens if I create an RCA jack A/B switcher and choose which unit I want to feed to the MOTU? Is this going to cause issues when switching from one source to the other? Is using the RCA jack going to degrade the signal?

What about that S/PDIF input on the HEDD? Is that there only for D/A monitoring or can I somehow run S/PDIF out of the API into the HEDD and use the HEDDs bypass switch to determine which unit feeds the MOTU?

Additionally, can I use the HEDD for both A/D and D/A simultaneously?

Thanks for any suggestions.
