I see your point.
After all it might be not so difficult to do revision of it.
It's usual manufacturer's R&D practice in refining existing product's line.
Hopefully RND team will look into that, too

To the people who for some reason are against grabbing two patch cables and hitting two patches...

Have you ever used a patchbay before? It takes about 2-3 seconds to hit such a patch. I don't see how that pans out to being difficult or annoying.

If you really hate hitting patches, and you have the dosh for a 5088...get an assistant.

As for insert switches...you can spend all day long A/B'ing the difference between outboard gear and no outboard gear, or you can MIX THE SONG!!!!!

........too much coffee........

but if you want to use any of the 5033 EQs in your penthouse when tracking you have to patch it in, which would break the DAW return signal your monitoring for that channel, which you would also have to patch to another input of the channel without the 5033 normalled to it.
if you want to use an EQ, instead of patching a pre to the DAW directly, you patch the pre to the channel input which goes to the EQ, which can then leave the console pre or post fader to the DAW for recording. total of two patch cables.

you monitor the DAW on as many other channels as you like (stereo or individually, whatever). pretty simple if you ask me.

one cool thing is each channel has different inputs, so if you have, say a compressor normalled to a channel, you can press 'line' to hear the signal without the comp, press 'buss' to hear the signal with the comp. no patch cables. pretty nifty if you ask me. thanks Josh for the tip.

This layout sounds like a pain in the ass. Hire an assistant???

How about just get a real console instead of an assembly of modules?

A real console like your Yamaha? Come on man. This is as real as a console can get. Sure you have lay out your patchbay with some forethought, but you'd be doing that anyway. We carefully designed our patchbay to that everything is normalled in a way that works perfectly for our workflow. I work without an assistant all the time -- no problem. Yes this console offers more flexibility and options for routing, but once you wrap your head around it it's very clever and powerful

I don't own any Japanese recording equipment. You must have me confused with someone else. Still, that design is a PITA compared to any large format recording console design. With those I can route without re-patching.

I like that, "Soundcraft snob". Compared to a Neve snob it's
sort of like a McDonald's snob vs a steakhouse snob?

Yes, it is not your father's Soundcraft. It's from hell.

I have one of Jim's Soundcrafts from Hell by the way. I really can't imagine having a more musically transparent sounding console. Sign me up for the Soundcraft Snob Mob. heh
