What is your take for that sweet "expensive sounding high end" on records? What are the ingredients?

In my experience and opinion you should save the cash and just fork it over to your mastering lab and have THEM add any high end sheen you may want. I don't know about you but my mastering lab has some gear I would DIE to have...I am always glad I didn't pop for the cost of it though.
