Royer SF12/Neve 1073 DPA

GS folks, is 60db of gain enough for the Royer SF12? I'm digging the possibility of using the SF12 for drum overs, but my first preamp choice for it was the Neve 1073 DPA. Royer recommends 60 to 70 db of gain, but I noticed the Neve has 60db so it may be towards the low end? I have the API and TG2 that have more gain, but I was looking forward to using the 1073 DPA and TG2 ohm switches for better results.

The SF12 is definitely low-gain, but 1073's will be plenty for it, especially on drums.

Cool!

Thanks Mike, great to have the 1073 DPA as an option. I'll have to look into the GML 8302 later to get some clean, high gain options too.

If you haven't, look into the 4ch Sytek pre-amp for 800 bucks. Don't let the price fool you, they are very nice.

Sytek

I've heard great things about Sytek preamps. Lots of great stuff out there, only positive reviews for Sytek. The Broadhurst Gardens stuff is supposed to be pretty nice too. With the 500 series these days, it's getting pretty nice, MA5, Tubule, Germanium, etc. I'm actually looking next at rack cases tonight and thinking about compressors/EQs/patchbay...must sleep tonight though...
