Apogee ad 500

I got a great deal on Apogee AD500 2 ch analog to digital converter .

Its and older model and its up to 18 bit and up to 48khz only .

I need it to run back into the daw from my studer a-80 .

My idea is to mixdown ( mixing ITB 24bit/48Khz) to studer tape recorder and then go back to daw from studer at CD resolution 16bit/44.1Khz .

What do you think about this ?

Is this converter still OK , i mean its made 15 years ago . Digital conversion inside this unit is old but analog stage of apogee is still good . Any opinions? Owners ex owners ?
