OT :Contour shuttle PRO user feedback

Hope it's OK to post this here:
Ol Betsey mentioned this product as a mouse alternative in the Mac section and said that Chris possibly uses one.
Chris, if you do use one, or anyone else, could you let me know how you find it, say compared to a trackball, mouse or even pen and tablet.
Many thanks

Hi Rennie,

Actually I do use a Contour shuttle pro and I LOVE it, ... I have pro tools free installed at home on a G4 and that's where I use it ... I tend to bring home some offline editing work.

I don't see the CSP as a replacement for the trackball though. you'll still want to keep that on hand. But it is a great tool to have if you don't have a controller (we have a pro control with edit pack at the studio). It has standard settings for plenty of applications (photoshop / final cut / pro tools / logic / ...) and can be custom consumer programmed as wished.

I also use it for Final Cut Pro. Both with ProTools and FCP it is definately something that I would NOT want to miss.

Hi Chris

Thanks for the feedback. I don't have a larger controller so it looks like a good option for my PT computer. And a trackball for my other computer set up.

Cheers

Had the CSP a couple of days now and think it is a very cool gizmo..
It took me a little while to suss out that i had to use the control strip to activate programming changes but since that I've been working out sets for different stages of my work and am very excited about using it in it's multiple guises throughout the stages of sessions.
It would be great if I could use it more than the key-commands limitation eg more in plug-in's, but it is a really efficient item.
It looks really nice too.
Thanks for the encouragement to get it Chris!!

Just got a Shuttle Pro V2 today. Apart from the obvious coolness of the jog wheel and buttons another advantage became clear...

As I regularly jump between Logic, Nuendo, Wavelab and Pro tools, I now have all the same buttons doing the same things across all the programs.

something I could previously not do, due to pro tools not having user edited key commands.

Recommended!!!!

This thing has made working within ProTools markedly more effecient. I have used it for a couple of years and wouldn't think of working without it.

I programmed the outer jog wheel to scroll screen horizontaly. The inner shuttle is set to variable nudge forward/backward.

i have one.... dont have it hooked up anymore since i got my mackie control... tho the scrub wheel on that sucks with DP3.1x, but they are so cheap [CSP] why not get one. when i get back moving on FCP, it will definately get hooked back up.

now only if i could get my mackie control to work with FCP.... anyone know if its possible?

have you figure out a way to turn the little dials on Pro Tools' plug-ins using the shuttle wheel?

I've always preferred the xkeys line of programmable keypads. I had a Pro some years ago, I'm likely to get another one.
