UREI Tuneup? Need Instructions.

Hello,

I have aquired an 1178, an LA4 and 1176.

I am going to have them looked at by an electronics technologist in my neighborhood.

I don't want to have them modified - just checked for minimum conditioning. The only thing I am interested in is getting them as quiet as possible. Where on the web can I find some generic instructions about some things that can be done to give these units a general tune-up. Such as, recapping, recalibrating and any relatively easy things done to fix any typical noise or inherent noise that these units are known for?

Thanks,

Woods

Urei fix-up

If your neighborhood tech doesn't already know what to do with 'em I'd say send 'em to someone that does.

I personally use Eddie Ciletti. He can do restoration work as well as modifications.

He did wonders making my vintage 1176 more quiet while leaving it essentially "stock".

Personally I find stock LA4's to be kinda sucky. Unless you want a real dark sound, as their slew rate drops significantly as you hit them harder. I have six Eddie Ciletti modded LA4's, and 2 stock units. The stock units are never used.

YMMV.

Hi Woods,

The user manuals has all information needed for proper adjustment. If you don't have the manuals, download them and print them out - they're really nice to have around.

Jakob-

Thanks for the link to Berklee's collection of manuals. Anyone know of other sites that might have other gear in PDF format?
