I spoke to Scott about the upgrade to 192 for the Spider a few months ago. He said it would be upgradeable, but he didn't know when.

Dave was stilling working on the prototype version at the time.

It probably won't be for a while as they've only started to do the HEDD's now.

I've did a couple of blind tests with the 'original' HEDD 192 against the Apogee AD-16-X. I thought I better check again after all these opinions.

Both recordings had the same level and were listened back via the HEDD 192. So obviously I only compared the A/D side. I used a mix I'm just working on, out from an analog desk and I have to say without a doubt that ten out of ten I picked the Apogee over the HEDD in the following blind listening tests.

For me the Apogee's seemed to be better in every aspect. This things are difficult to put into words and I don't even try.

I worked at 44.1/24 only. It's hard for me to imagine someone would prefer the original HEDD 192 converters over the new Apogee AD/DA-X series. For me they are not just different sounding they are better sounding.

Of course I don't expect anyone to come to the same conclusion. It's my own personal taste. I'd love to hear what you think when you have a chance to compare them.

I can't wait to hear the new converters for the HEDD...

Sorry I can't post any files... the artist wouldn't like it.
