4 x Massivo EQ and the Ibis

In the archives there's mention of a new Manley EQ, an 8 channel (4 x) Massive Passive. Anyone know when this is due out and how much it will be?

Also when is the Ibis going to be available?

Thank you.

The "IBIS" is nearing release... we should have the first one within the month. As for an 8 channel 'Massive'... I haven't heard anything about it... but you can always buy 4 and get 8 channels.

Hey Renie,

A dual Massive is like $4500.

4X =???

That's going to be a lot of dough.

You got some inheritance money coming soon?heh

Thrill,

No, family all seem in good health...grudge heh

But I am twitching to get a stereo EQ. The dealer guy I talked to about buying
one said, when I quizzed him about the EAR 825Q, that when people are demoing both units, they are leaving the Massive and buying the EAR. I know the EAR is about $400-500 cheaper...what do you think? Have you tried the EAR?

when the manley 16 x 2 came out i'm pretty sure eve-anna mentioned that they were looking into doing an 8 channel passive eq unit that would plug into the inserts on the 16x2 line channels. being passive it would be a fair bit cheaper to produce than the massive passive , per channel (no make up gain amps - the desk would be used for the make up gain). don't think it was going to be as full on as the massive though, maybe only 2 bands parametric, 2 shelving. i'm working form memory here so i could be wrong.

i still think this would be a great product and may make the 16 x 2 more useful to a lot more folks, but it seems that they may have abandoned the idea.

of course this unit could be used standalone as well, utilising your unused mic pre's at mixdown. sounds cool huh?

Ta,

Hey Renie,

My partner who is both a mastering engineer and an audiophile owns the "big three"' a Fairman,EAR and Massive(which I just sold to him).

I've tried all three and they are all useful(lucky bastard!!!).grudge

My personal opinion is this:

1)Most flexible-Massive Passive

2)Best sounding-Fairman with the EAR not too far behind. The Massive Passive is actually more neutral sounding in comparison.

3)If I could have only one which would it be? Probably the Massive(since i am already use to it and I miss it already). The EAR is great also and the Fairman is no slouch.

If that is not as wishy washy as you can get, I don't know what is.heh

Sorry kids, no plans for 8 channel Massive any time soon, if ever, although we did once think about some kind of thingy for the mixer as mentioned above...

We are thinking about a "Mini-Massive" in some shape or form... just at thinking stage now. And no I don't know how much it will cost and I promise not to announce a price until after we've built 400 of 'em.

You'll just hafta load up on the stereo Massive Passive's for now. Sorry.
(Oh yeah, there is a secret detented knobs mastering version out now... "Mastering Massive")

Shhhhhh. It is secret. Don't tell.

Thrill

Thanks for the spill.

Why did you sell the Massive ? For more green bricks? heh

I'm gonna get the EAR and Massive over...

Now a "Mini-Massive" sounds cute..will the Joe Meek brick shape be in for a comeback?heh

I sold it for the famous gearslut reason...

"I am in a bind and i need some fast cash!!!".

Fortunately I have a lead on another and when the cash pops up again, I'll pick it up.

Also my friend gets me mastering gigs at his place(the one's he doesn't want to do) so I will still get to use it. The mixes have slowed down a little now, so I have some time to do other things.

A mini-Massive or mono Massive is what I've been thinking(or dreaming about for a while). I mostly use it on lead vocals(usually just one unless its a duet or trio) so only one channel is being used at a time. A mono Massive would serve me great.

Yeah bring both home and let one "win your heart" or your wallet.heh

Thrill, Fletcher

Have you heard the Ibis yet at all?

If so, how's it compare to the Massive Passive?

I haven't yet, but I can't wait.

In the meantime I am trying to put some bucks together to check out the DW Fearn VT-4 EQ.

I have feeling that it might stick around for a while in my rig.heh

That's what I use our Massive for as well: Lead vocals.

Vocals also go through the 1073 for the iron.

Man, I've already shot my load as far as purchases go for this year
I would like to have the massive passive, the slam and the vari mu but if I get one I would consider myself lucky
How close does the Slam come to doing what the vari mu does?
I know I know, get both

Hey Jon,

Me too. My vocals usually see the Massive first and then go off their merry way(to other processors).

I want to try the Fearn because it loooks like it has incredible control in the mids(the normal trouble spots on lead vocal). Sometimes I miss that on the Massive(even though I've never tried feeding one side into the other).

Also rumor has it that it has better "air" control than the Massive.

Its only $3900 a channel.

But hey I guess for lead vocals, money is no object.
