Anyone heard the Hughes and Kettner Zen amps?

Hi, I'm just curious if any of you have heard the H&K Zenterra amps and what ya think of them, how they tracked etc? Also, if you've heard both, how did it compare to the Line 6 vetta amp. I'm thinking about getting something to compliment my VHT amp with a "do it all" kind of amp.
Thanks,
Steve

The Zentera is a really cool amp. Alex Lifeson is using them on tour now, combined with H&K tube amps... I don't know how much of the Zentera is in the mix, but his live sound was one of the best I've heard bar none. I've played a Zentera and thought it was way better than the Vetta. I stopped liking line6 amps after the flextone II, which I think is their last cool one. This new stuff is super versitile but also really crappy sounding. The Flextone II is just a neat amp, I think, and I can get a great tone from them. I think the Vox amp sounds like crap, but I know a few people who like it. I generally stay away from modelling amps. If I don't want a tube sound, I'll go to one of two SS amps I have.

I heard Alex Lifeson play through his ZenTera amps with Rush recently.

The guitar tech hit a chord before the show started and I nearly wet my pants it was so fantastic.
Awesome tones....Awesome.

I saw he had a pair of them, a pair of amps, and quite a few cabinets onstage.
I noticed none of tha cabinets were mic'd, so I did some research on the ZenTera. I couldn't believe it was all modeling.

The tones he got were astounding....so clear and present, then so chunky and full, yet not the least bit muddy. It was incredible.

I would like buy one of those ZenTera's but at about $4500 (USD) + $2600 for the amp, then God knows how much for the cabinet, it may be a while.

He's also using their tube amp, the Triamp Mk. II which is another phenomenal amp. He's not using the direct outs on the zenAmp, he is using a Palmer direct box. I agree his tone is totally amazing on this tour. I would gladly gladly gladly play a 100% H&K rig if they wanted to give me one ;-) I think those amps are amazing, and very fun to play. Great dynamics.

no amp can do it all, and do it all "the best". the modeler amps can give you all sorts of sounds, but don't quite "have it" (at least the handful i've heard).

even just the way the preamp triodes are implemented will noticeably predetermine the useful sounds/playing response.

all that said, i think the Mesa stuff being put out in recent years is rather excellent. It won't win any "hidden treasure" awards, but so be it. A Paul Reed Smith into a nice Mesa tube stack is a rather quality sound for rhythm, lead, and clean duties. not my personal thing, but a great "standard'" setup.

I have a line 6 Vetta 2 amp in my studio right now....I just ordered refurbished Hughes and Kettner Zentera amp and it should arrive sometime next week.I will have both for a few days then one has to go.The Vetta 2 sounds great........I drove up to Los Angeles just to play a Zentera combo....that thing was absolutely awesome sounding. Not as many bells and whistles as the Vetta 2 but to my ears much better tone.......I could not believe there are no tubes in that amp!!!I am a tube guy and up until now i didnt think any of the modeling amps were a worthy substitute for real tubes. If anyone else has any experience with the Zentera please leave input.I will do a little comparson review on both amps sometime end of next week and let you know which one gets to stay!!!

I haven't heard the Zentara but I've spent some time with a Tri-Amp and that was a cool piece I guess. All of the tones lacked some bigness and depth IMHO but were way cooler then a Line 6 on all fronts.

The most bitchin' modeling amp I've heard and played to date is the Vox Valvetronix stuff. I'm half tempted to sell a few pieces and get the 60 watt 1x12 combo and foot controller. It sounds and feels just about right.

i have also played the vox valvetronix....but the zentera is in a whole different league.i believe the only reason that the zentera hasnt taken off more is that it was priced too high...new list 4850...street around 2900-3200.

I've tried a couple of the Vox units, and was really dissapointed in the fact that the one thing they reall can't do is sound like a vox.

The Zenterra is a cool amp, but way overpriced IMO. For that Money, I'd go with a Diezel VH4 and call it a day.

I'm happy as a clam with my Wizard, but I wouldn't shun the Zenterra if I could get a sweet deal on one sometime.

The H&K Duotone is a sweet amp too.
