I've had a Neotek Elite for several years and love it. I'm wondering what interesting stuff, if any, in the wider music world has been done on these boards . I've heard that Steve Albini sometimes works on one, and that Stevie Wonder and Elton John own or used to own them. Beyond that, I'm curious for other stories. I'm also interested to hear any and all of your "war stories" or interesting tricks you've discovered with this console. Thanks in advance.

Steve Albini has an Elite in the A room at Electrical Audio and a Neotek series II(or maybe III) in his B room. Todd Rundgren had an Elite as well. It was on eBay a while back. There are many Neotek consoles in Chicago because the company started (and once again) is located there. Western Sound Labs has an Elan. Soundworks had an Elan I think. Dave Trumfio at Kingsize in LA had a series III. Joe Kasko just installed and Elite and I have an Elan. They are great sounding consoles, but I think you already know that.

What are the things about Neoteks that you like the best? What makes them get such high praise from you and a lot of other members of this board?

I love the pre's and I love the eq's. It's odd but when I started bouncing back and forth between a Neotek elite and the other 'big boy' consoles, I kept thinking to myself "If I only had a neotek pre right now", or "If I only had a neotek eq right now"... The headroom on the board isn't +98927947927972 db, but I don't care because I dig the way the console sounds when you overdrive it, both on the stereo bus and the individual channels themselves. Value-wise, I think they are easily worth twice what they go for...
The cons are the routing, and automation. If you haven't worked on one, I highly suggest calling a studio referal service in your area and trying to book a day (a lot of these places will give you a free day if show real interest, and even if they don't, they are usually very cheap) and putting it to the test. If you do, consentrate on the sonics... The routing will come to you in time.

That's where Soundworks (that I mentioned earlier) was. Soundworks had one studio Raxtrax had the other. The building used to be a carwash!

Heres a photo of my lil' neotek rack... 10 modules rebuilt after I bought a thoughly soaked 32x24 series II. still working on the stereo buss and master fader! They've become real popular at my place.
